Settings Reference

Every setting available in AcademicVoice, what it does, and where it lives. Badges: School · Pro · Clinician · AAC (no badge = all editions).

Opening Settings: School Pro AAC — open Settings and enter your staff PIN. Clinician — open Settings directly; no PIN is asked (the Clinician edition asks for its PIN when the app opens).

What follows the student: when you switch students, four things switch with them — mastery progress, board layout, cell layout and access settings (including access method and scan speed), and the student profile (grade, level), along with the student's eye-gaze calibration. Everything else in Settings applies to the whole iPad.

Communication & board

Setting	What it does
Cell Layout	Choose an appearance preset and cell shape, auto-size cells to fill the board, show or hide labels, and preview changes live.
Navigation Strip	Turn the navigation strip on or off.
Direct-Speak Mode	When on, tapping a cell speaks it immediately instead of building a sentence in the strip first.
School Panel	Turn on a simplified school-folder "pop-in" view, and keep the per-student Lessons planning list.
Board Visibility	Show or hide the top folder row and the category filter pills. (The emergency words are always visible — they are not part of this setting and cannot be hidden.)
Mascot	Choose the mascot and turn Show communication hints on or off.
Board Creator Pro AAC Clinician	Build and preview boards (cells use emoji, not photos). Pro and AAC ask for the staff PIN. School does not include an on-board editor.

The student

Setting	What it does
Student Profile	Set grade band, visible grade bands, vocabulary access mode / level, and a student's alternate-standards level (see chapter 03).
Academic Panel	Arrange topic order, show word counts on folders, and allow a flat-list view.
Mastery Criteria	Set how many consecutive sessions count as "mastered" and how mastered words are placed. Controls how a board grows. On School this is view-only.
Unit Library	Turn academic units on or off — this applies to every student on this iPad (see chapter 02). On AAC this is the 52-unit sample catalog.

Voice, language & feedback

Setting	What it does
Voice & Speech	Choose the speaking voice and whether tapping speaks.
Language	Choose the vocabulary and speaking language.
Haptic Feedback	Turn haptics on/off and set sensitivity; set the Scan Speed (saved per student).
Mascot & Tutorial	Turn the mascot on or off.

Accessibility

Setting	What it does
Accessibility	Appearance and interaction options that work with VoiceOver.
Vision Accessibility	Low-vision scaling, plus auditory scanning: an enable switch, announce-category, announce-folder-contents, audio-cue, and assessment confirm mode.
Testing Accommodation	Options for proctored testing sessions — answer-row format (including a 5-option A–E row), answer-lock behavior, auditory scanning, clear-strip-after-speaking — plus the option that requires a staff PIN to end a unit assessment.
Literacy Bridge	Literacy-readiness support options.

Scheduling & environment

Setting	What it does
Schedule	Create time/day blocks and link a unit and environment to each. One weekly schedule per iPad.
Environment	Manually set the current environment.
Standards & Location	Turn on state-mandated content and show standard codes on units. Pro AAC Clinician can also auto-detect the state.
State Education Profile	Review or change the state chosen at first launch.

Security, data & records

Setting	What it does
Access & PIN	Create and manage the staff PIN and role. School supports several staff accounts; Pro AAC Clinician use a single sign-in. Also holds the Danger Zone → Factory Reset (erases this device; preserves the sealed audit log). Clinician can also reach Factory Reset and Sign Out from the Clinician Hub → Professional Profile (see chapter 06).
Data & Logs	View vocabulary statistics and progress. Export to PDF Pro AAC Clinician; export to JSON Clinician. (The detailed audit-log viewer is on the Clinician Hub — see chapter 06.)
Backup & Restore	Make and restore a local backup of profiles and progress on this device.
Session Notes Clinician	Clinical session notes. Available in the Clinician edition.
Clinical Tools Clinician	Clinical dashboards (analytics, syntax, narrative, fatigue, behavior). Available in the Clinician edition.
Dual-Device Session	Pair two iPads. On Clinician this device browses for and connects to student devices; on School, Pro, and AAC it pairs with a Clinician device.

Information

Setting	What it does
Legal	Terms of service, privacy policy, and support information, shown inside the app, plus clinical disclaimers.
About	Edition, version, and website.

Notes on edition differences

PIN to open Settings: required on School Pro AAC; not required on Clinician (which uses a launch PIN instead).
Custom words and boards: School has no way to add custom words. On Pro, AAC, and Clinician, build custom boards with your own choice of words in Board Creator — Pro and AAC ask for the staff PIN; Clinician does not.
Exports: none on School; PDF on Pro and AAC; PDF + JSON on Clinician (the detailed audit-log viewer is on the Clinician Hub).
Board Creator: Pro AAC Clinician only.
A setting marked Clinician appears on School, Pro, and AAC only as an entry labeled Available in the Clinician edition — it has no function there.
